León City Council Launches Climate and Sustainable Energy Campaign
The León City Council, through its Department of Urban Development, is launching an information and awareness campaign on the city’s Sustainable Energy and Climate Action Plan (SECAP) as part of the 2ISECAP project.
The campaign will run from 18 to 29 November 2024 at the Renewable Energy Demonstration Centre. Activities include a presentation of the 2ISECAP European Project and a guided tour of the Demonstration Centre, highlighting the importance of renewable energy in addressing societal challenges. Attendees will learn about the critical role of renewable energy in reducing energy consumption, mitigating economic costs, and facilitating sustainability.
To amplify outreach, an informative video will be disseminated on social media platforms. The video highlights León’s efforts in mitigation and adaptation within sectors such as mobility, buildings, green spaces, and urban services. Watch the video below: .
León is a proud member of the Covenant of Mayors for Climate and Energy, a global alliance of local governments committed to combating climate change. By 2030, León has pledged to achieve:
- A 40% reduction in CO₂ emissions,
- A 27% increase in renewable energy consumption, and
- A 27% improvement in energy efficiency.
Since joining the Covenant in 2015, León has made significant progress, with measurable reductions in energy consumption and CO₂ emissions, demonstrating its dedication to a sustainable future.
